The international conference on Human Work Interaction Design will be conducted on 7th-8th October 2009.
HUMAN WORK INTERACTION-DESIGN 2009
Working Conference on Usability in Social, Cultural and Organisational Contexts-in Conjuction with the 4th Cultural Usability Project Seminar
Hosted by:
Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC),
A Scientific Society of Ministry of ICT, Government of India, Pune, India
Venue:
International Convention Centre (ICC), Pune, India
Wednesday & Thursday,7th-8th October 2009
Deadlines for submission:August 3rd 2009
The HUMAN WORK INTERACTION DESIGN 2009 working conference analyzes the concept of usability in social, cultural and organizational contexts. Analyzing usability in context is important for connecting empirical work analysis and interaction design. In industry, a wealth of usability evaluation methods is used to evaluate computer software user interfaces and other interactive products: Inspection methods, Workplace observation, Think-Aloud Usability Test, etc. These techniques often give - seemingly - similar results when applied in diverse social, cultural and organizational settings, but experience shows that we need a deep understanding of the cultural, social and organizational context to interpret the results, and to transform it into interaction design.

CAT 2009 BULLETIN | CAT 2009 BROCHURE | CAT 2009 APPLICATION FORM |CAT 2009 NOTIIFCATION | CAT 2009 ONLINE | CAT 2009 DATES | CAT 2009 DETAILS
CAT vouchers will be available through selected bank branches by the end of August 2009. After buying the voucher candidates will be supposed to apply online. The voucher will be available for Rs. 1400 for general candidates and for Rs. 700 for SC/ST candidates. Admit Cards will also be sent by e-mail to the candidates which they will have to print.
CAT 2009 to be Online:
The new computer-based test (CBT) will be embraced by IIMs across Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Kolkata, Indore, Kozhikode, Lucknow and Shillong, and will allow students to select a date convenient to them from a specified period of 10 days.
The new system is also expected to help the IIMs cope effectively with the increasing number of candidates every year. While around 95,000 candidates took CAT in 2003, the number rose to about 250,000 last year, reflecting a growth of over 163% and bringing the administrative system under severe pressure.
“With the online test, CAT will be similar to the GMAT test in its process. This will be definitely beneficial for the students as they can appear in the exam according to their suitability rather than a particular day”, says, Dr S P Parashar, Director, IIM-Indore.
The online CAT exam will be conducted on the pattern of similar international exams like GMAT (Graduate Management Aptitude Test), with the only exception that the results will not be declared instantly.
Here’s the list of information that the IIMs have released till date:
- The CAT will be held online for the year 2009* Prometric ETS has been awarded the contract for conducting the test
- CAT 2009 will be conducted over a period of 10 days at the end of 2009-05-11.
- Relevant details regarding the structure and the conduct of the examination to be released with the advertisement (normally in the month of July).
- Mr Subhashish Gupta, admission chairperson IIMB has said that the possibility of CAT 2009 being computer adaptive is quite remote.
- In all probability there will be 3 tests in a day. This means that there will be 30 tests over a period of 10 days.
Availability of forms for CAT 2009-2010:
CAT vouchers will be available through selected bank branches by the end of August 2009. After buying the voucher candidates will be supposed to apply online. The voucher will be available for Rs. 1400 for general candidates and for Rs. 700 for SC/ST candidates. Admit Cards will also be sent by e-mail to the candidates which they will have to print.
Important Dates(Proposed):
Availability of CAT voucher: By End of August, 2009
Last Date to buy CAT voucher: End of September, 2009
Date of CAT: End of November, 2009 (10 day window)
Eligibility criteria:
- For general candidates: A candidate should have got atleast 50% or equivalent CGPA in Graduation.
- For SC/ST candidates: A candidate should have got atleast 45% or equivalent CGPA in Graduation.
- Final year candidates who will complete their gradudation in 2010 can also apply.
Pattern of Examination:
- CAT is of two and a half hours duration having multiple choice questions from the followng sections:
Data Interpretation and logical Reasoning
Quantitative Ability
Verbal Ability and Comprehension
Candidates are expected to perform well in all the three sections as there are separate cut-offs for individual sections as well. Each question has 5 options. A candidate gets 4 marks for a right answer and 1 mark is deducted for an incorrect answer.
Obtaning the CAT 2009 Application Form:
CAT 2009 Results:
CAT 2009 results would be available from somewhere around January 2010. CAT 2009 results can be accessed on www.catiim.in and also by using sms facility or by sending a mail. SMS should be sent to 57333 after inserting ‘CAT test registration number date of birth (dd mm yy)’ or ‘CAT test registration number application number”. For getting CAT 2008 results by e-mail, candidates should register themselves between October 17, 2008 and November 30, 2008 by sending an SMS to 57333 with the following text: ‘CAT test registration number date of birth (dd mm yy) email identification
November 2008 will witness the last written CAT and from November 2009, the test will be conducted online. Though this seems to be a drastic change, the internet-age students will surely be comfortable with it. Also B-School aspirants feel that it is a good move as it will make the test more transparent and error-proof. But if the exam is going to be conducted online, then all students will not be able to take up the exam on the same day. It will be conducted in staggered batches within a window period of a few months. The other change will be that instead of the current single exam paper, the online test will have several different papers of the same level of difficulty. The online model will be similar to US exams like the GMAT (Graduate Management Aptitude Test) and the GRE (Graduate Record Examination) except that the results will not appear instantly. The IIMs will retain their control over the test, but the process of conducting the exam (including results and reporting of scores) will be outsourced. The switch is said to have been decided upon due to the increasing number of candidates. The figure stands around 3 Lakh currently and is only expected to increase further and cross this in 2009.

If you are logged out of the computer and cannot figure out the password at the start up screen, do the following: (this typically only works on Windows XP Home Edition)
- Restart the computer and tap the F8 button repeatedly while your computer starts up.
- You will get a screen with a list of options. You need to either choose Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Command Prompt. Press Enter to confirm your selection.
- After waiting a while for all the drivers to load (all the scrolling stuff), you will get the Welcome Screen, where you choose an account to log into. We know that the other accounts you can't get into, but there should be a new account called Administrator.
- Click on the Administrator account and then use the first procedure to reset someone's password.
TIPS:
- To practice bypassing passwords for speed, make a password you know and restart the computer and get the timing right for the boot F8 menu.
- Don't tell people that you can get in their computer, just get in and leave them some goodies of some kind. Be creative and have fun.
- Press Ctrl-Alt-Del twice at the login menu to pull up NT style login to bypass the process of booting to a "Safe Mode"...
- There are many other ways of resetting passwords on any Windows computer. These include various boot discs, floppy disks, etc.
WARNINGS:
- This is illegal in most cases unless the computer is your own, or you have permission.
- Be careful not to get caught doing this, especially with people that don't know you.
- Most public places (schools/offices/libraries) know this trick and have protection software for it! These people aren't stupid. This is why you boot around Windows with Linux.

Meaning of Information Technology

Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, dies at age 50
The King of Pop, whose life of stardom and scandal kept him permanently in the headlines, was found unconscious at his rented Bel Air mansion and was rushed to the UCLA Medical Centre.
Corral said an autopsy would be performed to check for toxicology and other problems. The results are to be released Friday.
A large crowd formed outside the medical centre and his home, playing Jackson's music, as news crews and reporters jostled for stories and as news helicopters hovered overhead.
Corral said that he had suffered a cardiac arrest and local media reported Jackson had not been breathing when paramedics reached him. Reports from hospital first said he was in a coma, before numerous media reported his death.
"We are just stunned - I can't tell you what has taken place but everyone is just stunned," family spokesman Brian Oxman told CNN. Referring to reports that Jackson was in ill health, Oxman said he "feared and warned about" the level of medication that Jackson was taking, though he stressed that "he was in fine condition. We have never seen him in any kind of weakened condition".
Jackson is survived by three children: Michael Joseph Jackson, Jr., Paris Michael Katherine Jackson and Prince "Blanket" Michael Jackson II.
Jackson had appeared increasingly frail and financially-challenged in recent years. Despite earning hundreds of millions of dollars he was reported to be $500 million in debt thanks largely to his eccentrically extravagant lifestyle.
Jackson's rented home was roped off after paramedics arrived to transport the King of Pop to the hospital.
Born in 1958 in Gary, Indiana, Jackson was a child star with the Jackson 5 and became one of the most successful recording artists of all time with the release of the album "Thriller" in 1982 - the best selling album of all time. His successful songs redefined the modern music video and forced MTV to start showing black performers, and paved the way for the acceptance of rap and hip-hop as mainstream musical styles.
Elevated to the stardom level of the Beatles and Elvis, he also introduced a new level of mega-stardom through his music and clothes, his dance moves, and his massive live concert tours.
"Michael Jackson made culture accept a person of colour - way before Tiger Woods, way before Oprah Winfrey, way before Barack Obama," said black leader Al Sharpton. "Michael did with music what they did in sport politics and music. No controversy will erase his impact."
He raised consciousness about the plight of Africa with the supergroup recording "We Are the World" in 1985. But after that most of his headlines were dogged by scandal - from his marriages to Lisa Presley and former nurse Debby Rowe, to his eccentric lifestyle behind the gates of his fantasy childhood estate, named Neverland, after the setting of the book Peter Pan.
He managed to settle an allegation that he molested a boy there in 1993, but was forced to face a sensational "trial of the century" 10 years later. He was ultimately acquitted of the charges, but the exposure caused huge damage to his career and financial situation.
At the time of his death he had been preparing for a 50-concert run in London that was meant to represent his comeback and secure his financial future.
Secret questions that protect e-mails are vulnerable
The researchers at Microsoft finds it and are based on an analysis of an experiment involving 32 e-mail users. What's the name of the school you attended? What is the first name of your favourite cousin? These are the kind of questions asked in case email account holders forget their password.
A second study by Microsoft has also suggested a more secure alternative, which is to rely on trusted friends to vouch for you if an account becomes locked. "Securing webmail is important because e-mail accounts typically allow an attacker access to other accounts, for example, eBay and Amazon. If I can recover these passwords via your e-mail account then I can spend the balance of your credit card on flat-screen TVs," said Ross Anderson of Cambridge University.
Stuart Schechter and Rob Reeder of Microsoft have proposed a new system, whereby users can select several 'trustees'. When a user gets locked out of his or her account, the trustees of the account holder will be asked to download a 'recovery code' and then the user has to collect such codes from multiple trustees before he or she can unlock the account.
Around 19 Hotmail users tried the new system and 17 of them managed to regain access to their Hotmail accounts. The success rate was 90 percent as compared to the 80 percent success rate of the secret question system.
The new method should be an optional choice for users and should not replace the secret questions approach, according to Anderson. The idea has promise, said Reeder, however pointing out that this is not a new idea.
